As mentioned above, we eventually moved home again to our 'twin' studios in late 1978, although regular broadcasts from our third home did not start until 1979 due to various technical problems and delays with new equipment. The new 'twin' studios enabled separate programmes to be broadcast to any of Chase Farm/Highlands/North Mid when large volumes of requests were received so that records could be played in full without having to fade them or rush through the requests in order to fit them all in. Local news bulletins could also be prepared in the second studio whilst the presenter was on air in Studio 1.
We stayed in these studios until 2006 but the main studio was refitted and upgraded due to normal wear and tear and improved technology in 2003.
Sadly, we said goodbye to North Middlesex Hospital some years ago due to the escalating costs of renting landlines from Chase Farm to North Mid but not before setting up a separate station at North Mid manned by Radio Enfield volunteers and other new recruits. The Highlands site was sold and redeveloped mostly for housing, so again broadcasts to Highlands were ended as the wards began to close. We are therefore back where we started, at our Chase Farm home, still giving the patients a real tonic after over 35 years!
During 2006 the hospital authorities wanted to demolish our building as part of the redevelopment of the Chase Farm site. They offered to build an extension to an existing building but wanted a considerable sum of money towards the building costs. Fortunately our good friends the Leagues of Friends of Chase Farm and the old Highlands hospitals came to our rescue and over one weekend in December 2006 we moved into our new building. This time we were only off air for the weekend and back to normal programmes on the Monday night.
