Fund Raising
Many ideas have been used over the years to raise funds to keep the station on the air. One unique money raising scheme devised in our second home, (formerly a brick-built bicycle shed in nursing home Block 7 which we occupied from late 1971 to autumn 1978), was to grow mushrooms to sell on the Charity Stall in Enfield Town Market. A compost heap was even built in a corner of the record library and the first job of the evening presenter was to give the compost heap a good dig over with a shovel .
Often presenters would arrive to find steam rising from the heap. No records exist of how much was eventually raised, in fact it's believed the mushrooms didn't even grow!

Our Radio Enfield disco/roadshow has always been very popular and there have been various raffles, jumble sales, race nights, outside broadcasts and even a new car raffled. The various Leagues of Friends at the main hospitals to which we have broadcast were particularly generous in both supporting us financially and encouraging our efforts - we regularly take part in the annual hospital fairs and other events. |
